What's the best way to learn ballroom dancing?
I don't want to impress anybody. I just don't want to look like a dweeb. What dance should I start with?

Leave it to your instructor. If you're interested in social dancing and not formal ballroom, then social foxtrot is probably the place to start. It's a remarkably different dance from ballroom foxtrot, but may be all you're interested in. Waltz is a good alternative and in some ways has advantages as a first if you become interested in actual formal ballroom dancing.
